Work activities vary in our health and safety training days, depending on the employer or employment sector.

Tasks typically involve:

• Making changes to working practices making them safer and ensuring they comply with current Irish legislation
• Preparing health and safety strategies and developing an internal policy
• Carrying out risk assessments of Premises, Equipment, Chemicals, Tasks and Duties, Fire, Display Screen Equipment, Expectant Mothers, Lone Working, Young Persons, Manual Handling, Legionella, etc., and considering how risks could be reduced
• Outlining safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards and communicating to all employees. These can then be developed into Safe Plan of Action`s with other supporting documentation
• Carrying out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented and adhered to. “Do what you say and say what you do”
• Leading in-house training with managers and employees about health and safety issues and risks

We also generally cover:

• Keeping records of inspections findings and producing reports that suggest improvements
• Keeping records of incidents and accidents and producing statistics for managers
• Keeping up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Authority (HSA) legislation and any developments that affect the employer’s industry
• Producing management reports, newsletters and bulletins
• Ensuring the safe installation of equipment
• Managing and organising the safe disposal of hazardous substances, e.g. chemicals, defective machinery and asbestos etc
• Advising on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases
• Assisting in pre-qualification questionnaires and gaining accreditations such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 ISO 45001, RAMS and MSRA`s, Safe T Cert, tenders, etc.
• Writing Risk Assessments, Safe Operating Procedures and Method Statements
• Delivering Toolbox Talks and liaising with HSA, Fire Officers, Environmental Health Officers , Environmental Protection Agency and Insurance Companies
